JAKUB TASICE GLASSWORKS

...first opened in 1796. The unique glassworks building was preceded in the 15th century by glass furnaces that processed quartz from the surrounding area using firewood from the nearby forests. The factory changed hands several times and after World War II it was nationalized until the Velvet Revolution of 1989, but the glass from its production never lost its fame. For example, the factory produced works that were shipped to Vienna or beautiful chandeliers to India or vases for the presidential palace in Mexico. After the revolution, the glassworks was also renamed Hut' Jakub (Jakub’s Glassworks) after the main character of Jaroslav Dietl's popular TV series The Sons and Daughters of Jakub the Glassmaker, which was filmed there in 1985. Finally the end to glass production came in April 2002 and the premises fell into disrepair. The owner then turned it into an open-air museum.
In the open-air museum visitors get to see historical buildings that have an industrial character. In addition to tours showing the glassmaking process, visitors can also enjoy occasional demonstrations of glassmaking and buy products from Czech glassworks and artists.
The premises of the glassworks are barrier-free and conveniently accessible for wheelchair users.
