Na Milovské huti Gallery

Bohemian Milovy was founded in 1648, when workers from the nearby ironworks in Březin started to build their houses here.

Since its foundation it belonged to the Rychmbur estate. In 1835 a glassworks was built here. Later a school was added, as well as a bakery, a meat shop and houses for glassmakers and their helpers. Both utility and luxury glass was exported from here to Western and Southern Europe, America, Turkey and Arabia. After fifty years, however, the settlement under the Four-stick Rock disappeared.

The Na Milovské huti Gallery presents 1000 exhibits of Czech glass from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, with a focus on the typical range of glassworks in the Highlands and the most important innovations that twice brought Czech glass to the top of the world.

The old craftsmanship is supported in the gallery by state-of-the-art artificial intelligence technology capable of recognising glass products, offering their descriptions and explanations of basic glassmaking terms. The gallery also offers a comprehensive film documentary mapping the history of twenty glassworks from the centre of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, including the most famous of them, the Milov glassworks.
