FROM THE SOURCE OF THE RIVER JIHLAVA TO THE JANŠTEJN GLASSWORKS

From the Jihlávka railway station we will go to Chadimův Mlýn, an old mill. In the local history exhibition visitors can see the period equipment of the mill, the first mention of which dates back to 1508. The owners of the mill now also run a family eco-farm with accommodation and a campsite.

After less than a kilometre we pass the Jan Žižka memorial stone, commemorating the battle of the Hussite troops with the troops of Jan of Telč in 1423, and continue up a gentle incline to the Janštejn glassworks. The company is one of the largest producers of hand-blown glass parts of light fittings in the Czech Republic and is also a producer of original BROKISGLASS glass which is created by recycling waste glass from glassworks.

We continue our gentle descent along a track named Březinova cesta to Horní Dubenky, where a refreshing reward awaits us at the local brewery in the form of Javořický lager from the Kozlíček family brewery. Refreshments are also available at the stylish Bistrot de Papa, which specialises in French cuisine.

The track leads us along the Bor pond to Jihlávka with its interesting Catholic and Evangelical bell tower. At the hikers’ signpost we turn to the educational trail K pramenům Počátek, which will lead us to the source of the Jihlava River.
