The first mention of the Jewish community in Horní Cerekev near Batelov is from 1867 concerning a synagogue. However, it was demolished in the 1950s. Near the village there is a Jewish cemetery, which was probably established in the seventeenth century.

The oldest Baroque tombstones date from the first half of the 18th century. The most recent tombstones date from before the Second World War. The cemetery also includes a mortuary with a tent roof. The sacred atmosphere among the tombstones is enhanced by ancient trees.
