Virtual tourThe document about the construction of the first synagogue in Ledeč nad Sázavou is also the first recorded mention of Jews in this town. It stands near Hus Square in Na Potoce Street. It dates back to 1606, but was destroyed by fire. Today's synagogue from 1739 has therefore replaced it. It is a ground-floor building in the style of rural baroque, with internal stucco decoration, vaults and a women's gallery. After a fire in the 19th century, it was rebuilt and altered to take a classicist form. After World War II it served as a warehouse. In 1991 it was declared a cultural monument and after a demanding reconstruction it was opened in 2000. It is now used for exhibitions and concerts.
