The first families probably came to the village of Police in 1454. The oldest written evidence from 1671 says that Jewish inhabitants came to Police from Vienna. However, even here the growing number of Jews led to trouble with the local inhabitants and so in 1728 Jewish families were forcibly relocated to the ground-floor houses built along the newly established Jewish Street.

These thirty houses including the synagogue are a valuable urban complex. The independent Jewish community was officially dissolved in 1890 and its members moved to neighbouring towns and villages such as Jemnice, Moravské Budějovice or Znojmo.
