THE FORMER JEWISH SYNAGOGUE IN TŘEŠŤ
The synagogue in Třešť is the only one with an arcade at the entrance. The building is also associated with Franz Kafka, who spent his summer holidays here with his uncle for seven consecutive years.

The Třešť synagogue was located in the southern part of the Jewish ghetto. Its exact time of construction is unknown, but in 1825 it was destroyed by fire, so a new one had to be built in the Empire style. It has a vaulted hall with stucco decoration and a façade with an arcade in classicist style. It is the only one of its type in the Czech Republic. Unfortunately, the interior has not been preserved. Since 1957 the building has been used bythe Czechoslovak Hussite Church, which still holds services there. As recently as the millennium there were nativity scenes on display.
Today, concerts and exhibitions are held in the synagogue. On the ground floor, visitors can see the permanent exhibition Veiled Traces, which maps the history of the Jewish community in Třešť. On the first floor there is an exhibition dedicated to the life of Franz Kafka, who stayed with his uncle Siegfried Löw from 1900 to 1907 and probably wrote his novel A Country Doctor here. Guided tours regularly take place here.
