It is 25 kilometres long and during the Thirty Years War, one of the corridors was used as an escape one. The corridors were dug when cellars had been cut into rocks connected one to another beginning from the late 13th century. They were used, among other things, for beer storage. However, there have been different explanations behind the corridor system. Current historians believe that the corridors were dug for economic purposes. If you take a tour of the underground, you will learn about medieval mining, see examples of ore processing and archaeological pottery findings. The exposition on Jihlava’s mining rights is also very interesting. Since the 2018 season, a civil defence shelter has been accessible as part of the tour.

DID YOU KNOW…

that in 1978, amateur speleologists discovered a glowing corridor here? The walls of the corridor are covered in a white film that luminesces in green after exposure to light.
