TŘEŠŤ JEWISH CEMETERY
The Jewish cemetery in Třešť is in quite a dismal state. There are twelve hundred tombstones, the oldest of which dates back to 1705.

Although the origins of Jewish settlement in Třešť in the Jihlava region are older, the local cemetery was founded in the 17th century. It is located on the slope of a hill in the Korečník area about half a kilometre from the synagogue. It is enclosed by a stone wall with two entrances. The main entrance is through a small ceremonial hall, which is in very poor condition and without a roof. Inside, a stone treasury with a metal lid has been preserved and fragments of Hebrew psalms are still visible on the white walls. The second entrance is called the Kohen Gate.
The cemetery had to be enlarged twice and in total there are about 1200 baroque and classicist tombstones with Hebrew inscriptions. The oldest tombstone dates back to 1705. Burials were carried out here until the Second World War. Today, some of the tombstones have been taken down and the newest ones have gilded additions commemorating the Holocaust.
The cemetery is accessible throughout the year.
