SANTINI AND HIS WORKS
Jan Blažej Santini Aichel – a brilliant Czech architect with Italian roots who became famous for his unique style called Baroque Gothic. He was born on 3 February 1677 into the family of a respected Prague stonemason. From birth he suffered from physical problems, so he could not continue in his father's trade and went his own way instead. By 1700 he was already designing and building independently. He died on 7 December 1723 aged just 46. Nevertheless, he left us almost 80 designs and completed buildings. The Vysočina region is rightly proud of the fact that a quarter of Santini's legacy lies here.
